32. The Poole Family

The Poole family acquired Oak View in 1940 from Julian M. Gregory. Although they made substantial improvements to Oak View, the Poole family only lived at Oak View for three years, until James Gregory Poole Sr. accepted a coal mining contract that required him to work in West Virginia. The Poole family is now known in Raleigh for the Gregory Poole Equipment Company, a Caterpillar dealer, started in 1951. Oak View was then purchased by James and Mary Bryan in 1944 and then Chauncey and Ella Jones in 1955, before being acquired by Wake County in 1984.
